There’s no perfect time for anything. The stars don’t always align before every moment, and people don’t always feel perfectly grounded before they need to take action.
Life keeps moving. It rolls along at its own pace, on its own untouchable timeline. No amount of waiting for perfection will slow life down. Stalling until you feel ready, good enough, not self-conscious, or a feeling of total confidence, only wastes your days away and leaves you in a state of rumination.
Self-consciousness may never fade, but courage will pull alongside you, as you begin to move forward. Confidence arrives when one is in motion.
Feeling ready and good enough are fleeting feelings as is confidence. You cannot hold onto them. Feelings are like a moving river. They cannot be stopped, but you mustn’t submerge yourself in them either.
Rather than waste time trying to make good feelings stick. Instead, embrace the experience of existence. Allow the full spectrum of emotions to run through you. Just let the river move as it needs. There you are alive and living as only one can.
You must accommodate the in-between moments. Life resides there in the messy middle.
Life will always have stickiness to it and people will always be unfinished. We can spend all our energy trying to clean up the sticky and spend all our time trying to be polished individuals, as we frantically edit ourselves, trying to cover up our messy bits. But the stickiness gives life its flavor. And being polished would strip us of our raw beauty and inventive nature.
We would lose all reason to work towards something. Our in-between, ever evolving nature is what living is all about.
So, rather than work to stay clean and smooth. What if we accept our edges and let the in-betweenness of life just be? Can we live with that? Life will be much more interesting and palatable if we do.
