True love requires one to make an effort to see and understand another. Perhaps one won’t understand the person completely, or all the time, but they still make a deliberate effort to understand another, taking the person’s thoughts, feelings and all of who they are into their own thought and their own heart. This is true consideration. This is honest love.
This is the love that will last and will be able to stay steady during stormy moments, even seasons of storms.
Honest love and true consideration go beyond clean towels and buying the foods a person likes. That’s just good assistance. Perhaps it’s classic hospitality.
But how are your customer service skills with those you care about? Do you listen to them? Do you take what they say and how they feel under account? Do you welcome their thoughts and ideas? And do you trust that they know what they want for their life more than you do?
Do you need to practice keeping your opinions to yourself? Perhaps you need to get better at being curious and ask more questions, rather than making assumptions. The art of discussion and conversation will flow from there. Curiosity is what builds safe spaces and makes one feel safe to be all of who they are in front of you and with you.
Love may take some energy. Consideration may take some energy, but it does not take any willpower.
In fact, the greatest flex of honest love and consideration is investing your time and energy into seeing them, caring for them, while working to remove the will of your ego in each moment you spend with them.
Know thyself and your loved one will feel safe to be themselves and will feel totally loved by you.
It’s a great balancing act perhaps this self-awareness and being aware of another. But those that are willing to dance this dance have chosen to express true consideration for another while carrying themselves with an evolving sense of maturity.
That’s the kind of flex I love to see in a person. That is true power. That person, the one who loves with all their being, makes an effort to see the person they are with in their entirety, and works to always keep their ego out of the loving, is a powerhouse.
