Omnishambles

Sometimes things in life seem to blow up in our face.

Sometimes everything feels like it is all falling apart, crumbling before our eyes like shattered glass.

Life doesn’t make sense sometimes.

Perhaps most of the time life doesn’t make sense.

We want to make sense of it.

We search all the corners of our mind trying to analyze everything. Our thought feels scrambled, tangled like a ball of frayed yarn.

We fumble around trying to pick up the broken glass, in denial that it broke. We end up cutting our hands and the shards of glass end up hurting others too.

If we spend too much time in this swirl of distress, analyzing, denying and being angry, we might miss the door that has opened from that which has closed.

Or the solution to our problem might be missed because thought is too focused on the stress the problem causes.

What a painful waste of time.

Yes, life often doesn’t make sense. Yeah, life isn’t always fair. There are often frustrations with that.

Yes, life often requires us to make a sharp pivot. It can hurt sometimes. We might feel like we’re stumbling around without any clarity. No obvious direction. No answers. No definitive path. Not fair.

Can you embrace the omnishambles?

Can you breathe through the cluster of chaos?

Life will often be uncomfortably messy and abruptly push us to swerve.

It won’t be fair, and it won’t make sense. It won’t always feel good in the moment.

Maybe the tears are in your eyes and the sweat beats start to form on your forehead.

Perhaps your mind won’t settle down. Maybe there’s a smattering of noisy opinions surrounding you.

However, you must pick up the bat. You must step up to the plate, regardless of the cluster of chaos.

Can you go through it with grace and courage? Or will you sit in the dugout?

Life requires us to step up to the plate.

And here’s a pro tip, we survive. The player ends up on his feet, even if the play didn’t go as planned.

You’ll be okay.
